Plein-Air Étude. Yverdon-les-Bains
This original plein-air oil study was painted in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, directly from observation. Created outdoors in a single painting session, the work captures a fleeting moment of light, atmosphere and landscape near the shores of Lake Neuchâtel.
Yverdon-les-Bains is known for its historic architecture, lakeside views and the quiet rhythm of everyday life between water, sky and mountains. Rather than focusing on precise detail, this plein-air étude explores the changing relationships of colour, light and space observed on location.
Working outdoors allows the painting to retain the spontaneity of direct perception. The movement of clouds, reflections on the water and subtle tonal shifts become part of the painting process itself. Each brushstroke responds to a real and rapidly changing moment in the landscape.
This work belongs to my ongoing plein-air painting practice across Switzerland, where small studies often become visual journals of places encountered during travel and observation. These paintings preserve not only a view, but also the atmosphere and sensation of being present within it.
